Wroxham Book Week – Monday 2nd November – Friday 6th November

Book Week begins tomorrow at Wroxham.  The whole week is dedicated to books, storytelling and reading with lots of exciting events planned for the school.

Book Week gets off to a fantastic start with a visit from Tom Banks, author of “The Great Galloon” pirate adventure series, on Monday.  He will read stories to Nursery and Reception before holding two interactive workshops for KS1 and KS2.  His visit will end with a book signing in the school hall at 3.15pm.

On Tuesday, pupils can bring in any old or unwanted books to swap with each other.  Parents are also invited to bring books to swap to the school hall at 3.15pm.

Wednesday is dedicated to bedtime stories.  Children can bring their favourite story along with their PJ’s or Onesie to school.  In the afternoon classes will join together to share their stories.

On Thursday, we are delighted that storyteller, Kathryn Holt will be returning to Wroxham.  She will be spending the day telling topic based stories to all the children.

On Friday, Book Week will draw to a stylish conclusion with our Book Oscar Ceremony in the afternoon.  Our wonderful Patron of Reading, Tamsyn Murray, will be our host for the event which begins at 2.30pm in the school hall.  All the children and teachers will be dressing to impress in keeping with the theme. There are five Oscars up for grabs including the ultimate accolade of Wroxham’s Rocking Read and after four weeks of reading and voting the children are very excited to see which books will win.

Tamsyn and Tanglewood

On 17th and 24th September, some of the children, were given the opportunity to attend a creative writing workshop.  The workshops were held by our wonderful Patron of Reading, Tamsyn Murray.

Tamsyn started the session by asking the children how they would feel if they arrived home from school and their parents announced that they were moving to a wildlife park called Tanglewood. The answers were very varied. Some of the children said they would be happy and excited, some felt they would be worried or scared, some even said they would feel sad but they all agreed it would be an adventure!

After brainstorming the different types of animals you might see in a wildlife park, the children moved onto planning their stories. Tamsyn explained that the story would begin with the move. The middle of the story would present a problem or issue and that this would need to be resolved by the end of the story. The children thought about different issues or problems that may arise in a wildlife park and how an owner might solve them.

Once they had decided how their story would unfold the children began their writing. They worked hard to create interesting and inventive stories that would capture the imagination of their readers – all in the space of a one hour workshop!

Summer Reading Challenge Assembly

We were very lucky to receive a visit today from Jo Brown who works for the Schools Library Service.  Jo held a whole school assembly to encourage all the children to join up to the Summer Reading Challenge.

This year the challenge has joined up with Guinness World Records so Jo challenged Mr Davy to see how many marshmallows he could catch in 1 minute using chopsticks!  The current record is 31- Mr Davy caught zero marshmallows in a minute but he certainly had a lot of fun trying and the children enjoyed watching his record breaking attempt!

The challenge is completely free- just pop along to your local library to sign up. A letter will be sent home with the children today with more details about how they can get involved.  You can also follow the link below.

Wroxham’s Got Talent!

On Friday 12th June our wonderful Patron of Reading Tamsyn Murray came to visit us.  She started the day by visiting EYFS and reading “Oi Frog!” to Nursery and “The Gigantic Turnip” to Reception- both books were a hit with the children and staff.

Tamsyn continued her visit by holding two very exciting and interactive workshops for KS1 and KS2.  The workshops were based on Completely Cassidy and involved plate spinning, balloon modelling and hula hooping which the children thoroughly enjoyed and were also quite talented at!

In the afternoon Tamsyn held an assembly for all the children and parents to explain the importance of the Summer Reading Challenge.  The day ended with a book signing where we were extremely lucky to have copies of Tamsyn’s new book-Completely Cassidy: Star Reporter available to purchase over two weeks before they hit the shops!  A long line of delighted children went home with their signed copies for a weekend of reading.

Thank you Tamsyn for a fantastic day!

Completely Cassidy PJ Party

On Friday 20th March, to celebrate the launch of her latest book, the children of Wroxham attended a Completely Cassidy PJ party hosted by our patron of reading Tamsyn Murray.

The children had a wonderful time (so did the staff!) sharing popcorn whilst singing the songs from Frozen.  There was a prize for Best Singer which was awarded to Bailey in Year 3 for his very enthusiastic singing and ‘air grabs’!

Everyone went home with a fantastic goody bag containing a signed copy of Completely Cassidy: Accidental Genius, Rolos and a Wham bar.

Thank you Tamsyn for a thoroughly enjoyable evening!

Hello Wroxham!

It’s Tamsyn here. This is just a quick post to say how fantastic it was to see you on World Book Day last week (in your amazing costumes) and to present the Patron’s Cup. I am still in awe of how many books you read – WOW! Remember, I’d love to read your reviews of some of the books you read. And I’m really looking forward to seeing some of you next week at the Completely Cassidy Pyjama Party – there’s going to be a prize for the best singer so start practicing now…

I also wanted to let you know that Completely Cassidy: Accidental Genius has been chosen to be part of The Reading Agency’s Summer Reading Challenge, which is fantastic news. I’m sure most of you have heard of this – it’s run with your local library over the summer holiday and it challenges you to read six books while you are off school. There are loads of fabulous titles on the lists (one for older readers and one for younger readers  – can you spot Completely Cassidy?) and I would really love it if loads of you took part this year, especially since reading six books will be EASY when you have all just blown that total out of the water for the Patron’s Cup.

And don’t forget you can enter my short story competition and win £100 worth of books! All the details for that are on the  Completely Cassidy website

See you soon!
